Staffing Rating
The Pine of Camden holds a 5-star overall rating from CMS, which is the highest possible score. Two of the three sub-ratings are driving that strong result. The health inspection rating of 5 stars means state inspectors found very few, if any, serious problems during their visits, which is a good sign that the facility is being run safely and responsibly on a day-to-day basis. The staffing rating of 5 stars means nurses are spending more time with residents compared to most other facilities, which practically speaking means your loved one is less likely to have to wait long for help and more likely to receive attentive, personal care. The one area worth a closer look is the quality measures rating, which comes in at 2 out of 5 stars. This score is based on 15 clinical health outcomes for residents, things like rates of falls, pressure wounds, or changes in mobility. A below-average score here does not necessarily mean poor care across the board, but it does suggest the facility may be struggling with some specific health outcome tracking or resident health trends. It is worth asking the facility directly which measures contributed to the lower score and what steps they are taking to improve. The overall 5-star rating is a genuine reflection of strong performance in inspections and staffing, but the quality measures score is a real data point that deserves a conversation before you make a final decision.

Questions to ask when visiting
1. How many residents does each certified nursing assistant care for during the day shift, and how does that number change at night and on weekends? 2. How long have your charge nurses and CNAs been working here, and what does your staff turnover look like over the past year? 3. If my loved one has a fall, develops a pressure sore, or has a medical emergency, how will you communicate with our family, and how quickly can we expect that call? 4. Can you walk me through what a typical weekday looks like for a resident, from waking up in the morning to going to bed at night? 5. What happens when a resident refuses care, becomes agitated, or shows signs of depression - who gets involved, and what is the process for addressing that? 6. Has this facility received any state or federal citations in the past two years, and if so, what specific changes were made to fix those problems? About CMS Star Ratings

CMS assigns 1–5 star ratings to Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing homes based on three domains: health inspections, staffing levels, and quality measures. The overall rating is a weighted composite.

A 5-star overall rating does not guarantee excellence in every domain — inspect each sub-rating independently. Data is updated quarterly.
