Staffing Rating
Tempe Post Acute earned an overall 5-star rating from CMS, which is about as good as it gets. That top score is a composite built from three separate ratings, and two of them are outstanding. The Health Inspection rating of 5 stars means state inspectors found very few problems, or only minor ones, during their visits. That's a meaningful signal for families, since inspections are designed to catch real issues with care, safety, and how the facility operates day to day. The Quality Measures rating is also 5 stars, reflecting that residents here tend to fare well across 15 clinical health markers, things like infection rates, fall injuries, and how much residents' physical condition changes over time. In practical terms, this suggests the care being delivered is actually producing good outcomes for the people living there.
The one area that lands at average rather than excellent is Staffing, which comes in at 3 stars. This rating is based on how many nursing hours residents receive relative to how many residents live in the facility. A 3 means the staffing levels are in line with what you'd find at a typical nursing home, not a standout. It's worth asking the facility about their staffing patterns during your visit, particularly on nights and weekends. That said, the strong inspection history and excellent clinical outcomes suggest the staff that is there is doing quality work. Overall, this is a highly rated facility, and the numbers give families good reason to feel confident about it.

Questions to ask when visiting
1. How many residents does each certified nursing assistant care for during the day shift, and does that number change at night or on weekends?
2. How long have most of your nurses and aides been working here, and what is your staff turnover rate over the past year?
3. If my loved one falls or has a medical emergency overnight, who responds and how quickly, and can you walk me through exactly what happens step by step?
4. How do you handle a resident who refuses to eat, is showing signs of depression, or keeps asking to go home?
5. Can I come back for an unannounced visit at a different time of day, and am I allowed to drop in during mealtimes or evening hours?
6. What happened the last time a resident or family member made a complaint, and how did the facility respond?

About CMS Star Ratings
CMS assigns 1–5 star ratings to Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing homes based on three domains: health inspections, staffing levels, and quality measures. The overall rating is a weighted composite.
A 5-star overall rating does not guarantee excellence in every domain — inspect each sub-rating independently. Data is updated quarterly.
