Staffing Rating
Edgemoor Hospital earns an overall 4-star rating, which means it performs above average compared to other facilities nationwide. That overall score is a composite of three separate ratings, and in this case, two very strong scores are carrying a weaker one. The staffing and quality measures ratings both come in at a perfect 5 stars. The staffing score tells you that nurses are spending significantly more time with residents than you'd typically see elsewhere, which is a meaningful indicator of day-to-day attentiveness and care. The quality measures score reflects how residents are actually doing physically and clinically across 15 tracked health outcomes, things like wound care, mobility, and infection rates. Scoring at the top there suggests residents tend to fare well under this facility's care. The one area worth paying attention to is the 2-star health inspection rating, which falls below average. This score comes from state inspectors who visit the facility and document any problems they find, and a lower score means inspectors have cited more issues, more serious issues, or both, compared to most facilities. That doesn't erase the strong staffing and outcomes numbers, but it does mean families should ask questions. Request a copy of the most recent inspection report, ask what citations were found and what steps the facility has taken to address them, and pay attention to what you observe during a visit. The overall picture here is genuinely encouraging, but the inspection score is a flag worth following up on directly.

Questions to ask when visiting
1. How many residents does each certified nursing assistant care for during the day shift, and does that number change at night or on weekends? 2. How long have your nursing staff and CNAs been working here on average, and what is your turnover rate over the past year? 3. If my loved one has a concern or feels unsafe, who do they tell, and can you walk me through exactly what happens after that? 4. What does a typical Tuesday look like for a resident who is mobile and what does it look like for someone who mostly stays in their room? 5. Has this facility received any citations or deficiencies from state inspectors in the past two years, and if so, what changed as a result? 6. How do you handle a situation where a resident's condition is declining and the family lives out of town - who calls, how quickly, and how often can we expect updates without having to ask? About CMS Star Ratings

CMS assigns 1–5 star ratings to Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing homes based on three domains: health inspections, staffing levels, and quality measures. The overall rating is a weighted composite.

A 5-star overall rating does not guarantee excellence in every domain — inspect each sub-rating independently. Data is updated quarterly.
