Staffing Rating
Riviera Health Resort earned a perfect 5-star rating from CMS, meaning it ranks much above average across every category measured. The overall rating is built from three separate scores, and this facility maxed out all three. The health inspection score reflects how the facility performed during state inspections, and a 5-star result means inspectors found very few, if any, serious problems. The staffing score tells you how many nursing hours residents actually receive each day relative to the number of people living there, and again, Riviera scored at the top, which means residents are getting strong, attentive care rather than stretched-thin staff trying to cover too many people. The quality measures score is based on 15 clinical and physical health outcomes, things like how well the facility manages pain, prevents infections, and maintains residents' ability to move and function. Scoring 5 stars there suggests residents are genuinely thriving under the care provided. For families, a clean sweep like this is about as reassuring as it gets on paper. It means the facility isn't just checking boxes during inspections but is also delivering consistent, high-quality care day to day. That said, ratings are a great starting point, not a final answer. A visit in person will always tell you things a number can't.

Questions to ask when visiting
1. How many residents does each certified nursing assistant care for during a typical day shift and a typical night shift? 2. If my loved one has a concern or complaint, who specifically handles that, and can you show me how a recent complaint was resolved? 3. What happens when a staff member calls out sick - do you bring in agency nurses and aides, or do you have a consistent pool of staff who already know the residents? 4. How often does the same aide work with the same resident each week, and what do you do to keep that consistency in place? 5. Can you walk me through what a typical Tuesday looks like for a resident who does not have physical therapy scheduled that day? 6. What was your most recent state inspection score, where can I read the full report, and what specific steps have you taken to fix any deficiencies that were cited? About CMS Star Ratings

CMS assigns 1–5 star ratings to Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing homes based on three domains: health inspections, staffing levels, and quality measures. The overall rating is a weighted composite.

A 5-star overall rating does not guarantee excellence in every domain — inspect each sub-rating independently. Data is updated quarterly.
