Staffing Rating
Life Care Center of Sarasota holds an overall 4-star rating, which means it ranks above average compared to nursing homes across the country. That overall score is a composite of three separate ratings, and in this case, one area really stands out. The Quality Measures rating is a perfect 5 stars, which is the strongest possible score. This rating looks at 15 clinical and physical health outcomes for residents, things like whether residents are maintaining mobility, managing pain, or avoiding preventable conditions. A top score here suggests the facility is doing genuinely well at keeping residents healthy day to day. The other two ratings land at 3 stars each, which puts them right at average. The Health Inspection score reflects what state inspectors found during their visits, including how many issues were cited and how serious those issues were. Average here means nothing alarming, but also not a spotless record. The Staffing score tells you how many nursing hours residents are getting relative to the number of people living there, and average means families should feel comfortable asking the facility about staffing levels on different shifts. Together, these three pieces roll up into that 4-star overall rating, with the excellent quality outcomes helping lift the score above the middle of the pack.

Questions to ask when visiting
1. How many residents does each certified nursing aide typically care for during the day shift, and how does that number change at night and on weekends? 2. How long have most of your nurses and aides been working here, and what does your staff turnover look like over the past year? 3. What happens when a resident has a fall or a medical emergency in the middle of the night - who responds, how quickly, and how do you notify the family? 4. Can I come back unannounced at a different time of day, and can I speak privately with a few current residents or their family members? 5. How do you handle a situation where a resident is unhappy with their care or feels like their concerns are being ignored - who do they go to, and what has actually changed here because a resident spoke up? 6. Walk me through what a typical Tuesday looks like for a resident who needs a lot of help with daily activities - what time do they wake up, who helps them, and what do they do between meals? About CMS Star Ratings

CMS assigns 1–5 star ratings to Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing homes based on three domains: health inspections, staffing levels, and quality measures. The overall rating is a weighted composite.

A 5-star overall rating does not guarantee excellence in every domain — inspect each sub-rating independently. Data is updated quarterly.
